I was looking at this guy last night...checking out the camera settings and what not...and I noticed something strange...is his beak wired shut?

How odd. I can't tell if it's eating some strange long weedy dried grass thing or if what. Also at the corner of it's beak it look silverish. Strange. But what I really want to know is what is that green mop looking thing to the left???
Thanks for the link to that photo site. It's very alluring.

It looks more like sutures of some sort. Wish I'd been able to do that to one of my children in their teen years! LOL!

if it were wired, surely they wouldn't leave that long, long piece hanging off like that. i think it's just hay or some sort of grass it is eating. i was more puzzled by the sunglasses the penguin is fronting.

i don't think he is wired either...and he is very watched look at all the bands on his feet...it does deserve a second look!

I think he just has a big shrimp in his beak and those things sticking out are those long sticky out bits that shrimps have at the front of them that get stuck in your teeth! LOL Funny photo though! I would be more worried about whats behind that cave entrance with the strange green creature guarding it!

That's a very odd coloured Puffin! He has a pale head and no colours on his bill!!! Maybe he had a piece of fishing line in his beak.
Nice shot of the Bridled Guillemot behind him too. I saw both of these for the first time only last week. Awesome birds aren't they.
Best wishes
Billie :)

Hi Julie
In adult birds that are paired or looking to pair, a piece of nesting material (grass etc)would be considered a love gift. The bird equivelent of a box of chocs ;)
Given the pale colouring on the bill this may be a juvenial bird, which may have eaten something it shouldn't (a fish on a line) or as someone else said practicing offering other birds love gifts.

Braces. Definately braces. Birds can be so vain...

It's been interesting reading all these thoughts. Laura's rocks the most... yes, I hope the bird's parents didnt spend too much on those braces.
